Talos Art Gallery Summer Exhibition 2024 & 2025

I was introduced to Richard, owner of Talos Art Gallery and Talos Foundry by my friend, the sculptor Patrick Bull in 2023. Richard invited me to be part of the summer exhibition at his gallery near Calne, Wiltshire in the summer of 2024. I exhibited six drawings originally, three detailed pen drawings inspired by the Forest of Dean and three ink and brush drawings.

Upon visiting the show I was so pleased to see my work in prominent positions in the gallery. My three pen drawings were right in front of you as you entered the beautiful converted barns. My ink and brush works were in a room to the left, given plenty of breathing space next to one of Richard’s own impressive sculptures. After a few weeks I was delighted to learn that the three ink and brush drawings sold. I took three more ink and brush drawings to be displayed that I had framed ready for a different show, it seemed a shame to leave the wall space empty. One of the three new drawings sold before the show ended, four drawings in total. It was such a confidence boost and confirmation that moving in a new direction with looser more atmospheric work was a good decision.

Richard was so kind and generous with his time, I was so grateful to be included in such a great show. The gardens at Talos Art Gallery were a highlight for me as a lover of flowers, the roses in particular were stunning. As Richard is a sculptor himself you could really see his passion come alive in the work featured throughout the grounds.

Richard invited me to take part in the 2025 summer exhibition and as I’d loved the experience previously it was an instant yes. I had four new ink and brush drawings the same size as the previous year as well as two slightly larger drawings on display. I attended an informal private view and was pleased to see my work had been given the same positions as last year. The diversity of the work on show was wonderful and the gardens were again an absolute delight. I was pleased to have sold work again, one small work and one slightly larger.

Exhibiting at Talos Art Gallery for the past two years has been a highlight for me and I look forward to hopefully exhibiting there in 2026.

Works on Paper 7 at Blue Shop Gallery

I’m delighted to have four of my original ink drawings included in Blue Shop Gallery’s Works on Paper 7. Ocki, owner of Blue Shop Gallery is committed to helping artists grow by keeping open calls free to enter. I entered the Works on Paper open call earlier this year (my second time applying) and was absolutely astounded to receive an email saying that my work had been accepted.

It’s a real privilege to have my work alongside artists who I admire greatly, including Orla Kane, Camilla Skye, Catrin Llwyd, Tom Scotcher, Louise Pettifer and Toby Wills-Hart (among many many others).

“Walking in forests and being surrounded by trees has always been a contradictory experience for me, I crave the stillness of the woods and the quiet of nature and yet an expansive forest environment can also feel quite foreboding, as if something could be lurking out of sight. In my drawings I'm seeking to represent woodland landscapes, my particular focus is on the light and dark, texture and detail. How woodlands are magical, beautiful, isolating and lonely places all at once. I utilise a process of layering ink and water, allowing the ink to create marks and textures which become integral to the work. I scrub away at the drawing and then use a fine brush to draw in branches, leaves and tiny twigs. The scale is purposefully small, to draw the viewer in and to create an intimacy, the drawings are like little jewels, reminiscent of collectable playing cards, each offering their own woodland impression.”

Project Workshops December Open Studio

In December I took part in an Open Studio weekend at Project Workshops in Quarley, Hampshire. I was delighted to be able to spend a weekend chatting to artists and art appreciators. There was quite a bad storm throughout the weekend, on the Saturday especially but luckily people did venture out.

I exhibited several of my detailed Forest of Dean inspired drawings on the wall and had a table top with framed ink and brush drawings, my largest drawing ‘Sculpture Trail Ferns’ as well as new unframed work.

I was so pleased to have sold three original drawings and to have had some wonderful feedback. It was great seeing people take a really good look at my work, especially the detailed drawings. As an artist working without a dedicated studio space it was wonderful to be able to exhibit at Project Workshops and be surrounded by other creatives.
